Area: This area covers the main part of Pwllheli beach from the Caffi Melyn (the yellow cafe on the beach) West passed the Golf course to Carreg Y Defaid.
Tackle: Standard beach fishing gear with a size 2/0, two hook clip down rig is all you need for most fishing at this venue, but go down to a size 4 or 6 for the Bream.
During the summer months, this area fishes well with light spinning gear for Mackerel, Bass and Garfish.
Tides: Generally fishes better on the rising tide but can produce on the ebb, especially for Thornbacks.
Bait: Sandeels, Ragworm, Crab, Mackerel for most species. Feathers, plugs and spinners for Mackerel and Bass.
Conditions: The beach is mixed shingle/sand fishing onto clean ground with some light rough patches.
Long casting isn't necessary, but can be an advantage in clear calm conditions.
Expect a lot of loose weed after strong south westerly winds.
Other fish: Sting Ray have been landed from the Mussel bed in front of the Golf Course.
The area in front of the Golf Course is the local hot spot for Black Bream, fish close in with small baits in front of the boulders in the sand dunes for these sought after fish.
