20th Jul 2006 : Red Bream, Tope, huge Bass!

The fishing has been very good lately, some good fish (including a Bass of over 13lb) and some unusual fish have been landed.

28th May 2006 : Black Bream arrive at Pwllheli!

We have just had the first report of a Black Bream caught from Pwllheli Marina yesterday (27/05/06). The fish of over 2lbs fell to a small squid bait. This dispite two weeks of seemingly continuous rain and very coloured water in the Marina.

Meanwhile, there are still plenty of Bass at Pwllheli, Abersoch and Llanbedrog. Some falling to lures but mostly to a crab bait. Thornies are still few and far between with only the odd one being caught from Gimblet rock at range. There are Dogfish in numbers everywhere with many anglers failing to get through them to more sought after quarry.

Tope are begginning to show to the boats on the causeway and there are plenty of Mackerel out in the bay and Mackerel have recently been seen shoaling off Abererch Beach.

Finally it's starting to feel like Summer.

9th May 2006 : Angling Update

Mackerel are gathering in the bay with catches of a dozen or so being landed from boats just off shore.

A number of Bass, some between 5lb and over 7lb have been caught in Pwllheli Marina over the last couple of weeks, with one or two caught on spinner. But still no sign of the eagerly awaited Black Bream, who will be the first to catch one?

Most of the rock marks are producing Huss, some Plaice on the North Coast around Nefyn, Bass to lures in Abersoch and Porthdinllaen.

Tope have been caught by boat anglers off the North Coast since early April and should be accumulating in numbers in the next few weeks. The Bream should have arrived by now, but so far none have been reported. So expect a marked improvement in the fishing very soon.

22nd Feb 2006 : Angling Update

The fishing this month has been typically slow, nevertheless there are still plenty of Dogfish and a few, allbeit small Whiting about. Huss are starting to show and a few have been landed at the far west end of the Llŷn Peninsula around Uwchmynydd.

Favourite baits are still small sandeels and mackerel fillets. But this year we have a good stock of large and extra large sandeels for when the Huss show up in numbers. We have also secured a supply of black lug, which we hope to be able to offer all year.

23rd Jan 2006 : Angling Update

As the New Year gets underway we see the usual glut of winter species all around the peninsula. There are plenty of Dogfish, Whiting and Dabs from many of the shore marks as well as a number of Thornback Rays from the beaches around Nefyn and Porthdinllaen. Coalfish are showing from Aberdaron, Whistling Sands and Morfa Nefyn along with the odd Huss from Pwllheli and Morfa Nefyn beaches. Isolated shoals of Bass have given good sport to those anglers at Abersoch who were in the right place at the right time.

The favourite baits this month have been small sandeels and mackerel fillets.

Boats anglers have reported Spurdogs in large numbers and even a few Tope from Muddy Hollow when the weather conditions are favourable.
